In June of 2016, Bishop L. Jonathan Holston,
the resident bishop of the South Carolina Annual Conference, assigned Reverend Gene Aiken as the pastor to Mount Zion United Methodist Church. This will be Gene's second year as our pastor.

Gene was born and raised in Aiken, South Carolina, where he attended St. John's United Methodist Church. He graduated in 2002 from Clemson University with a degree in Secondary Education and in 2015 from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. Gene was commissioned at the South Carolina United Methodist Annual Conference in June of 2015.

Gene has 15 years of ministerial experience. He served from 2010 to 2015 as a full-time local pastor in the Jackson Charge which consisted of Bethel UMC and Wesley Chapel UMC, Orangeburg District. Prior to his full time appointment in the Orangeburg District, he served for eight years as Youth Director at three churches: Clairmont Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Advent UMC in Simpsonville, and St. John's UMC in Aiken. While at St. John's UMC, Gene was also in charge of the Missions Program.

Spending time with his family, playing golf, and watchin
g sports are things that Gene enjoys. He enjoys being back "close" to Clemson, a place that he loves. He and his girls attend as many Clemson football games as possible!
You might think that Gene is familiar--that you've seen him before. While attending Clemson University, he was employed at Hubbard Young Pharmacy which is where he fell in love with not only the school, but the community as well.

Pastor Gene Aiken Family
How Gene met his wife Katie is a romantic story blessed by God. They met at Salkehatchie in 2006 and were married in July of 2007. Katie was born in New Orleans, LA and being the daughter of a pastor, she grew up in towns in Texas, Arkansas, and Tennessee.
Her father, Terry Fleming, is currently a pastor at New Beginnings UMC in Boiling Springs. She has a degree in Biology from the University of South Carolina, Aiken, and is currently employed at Pickens County Adult Education. Katie enjoys sewing and horses.

Gene and Kati
e have two little girls. Ann Michele was born in 2010 and Lily in 2014. Both girls love anything "princess", "pink", "Disney"; and their dog Bowman. Ann Michele looks forward to Clemson football games, and any excuse she can find to wear her Clemson cheerleading outfit!
